New American Wing Galleries opening at The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Located on Manhattan’s exclusive Upper East Side, just down the block on 5th Avenue form the Guggenheim is The Metropolitan Museum of Art. ”The Met,” as it is known to both New Yorkers and tourist visiting New York alike, is one of the most exclusive museums in the world. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is also free; there is a “suggested admission” of $25 per person, however, that is completely optional.
On January 16, 2012, twenty-five new and expanded galleries provide visitors with a rich history of American art from the 18th through the early 20th century. The museum’s collection of American paintings is displayed together for the first time including works by John Singleton Copley, Thomas Eakins and Winslow Homer. The centerpiece of the new installation is Emanuel Gottlieb Leutze’s 1851 painting Washington Crossing the Delaware.
After you visit the museum, you can walk into Central Park, take a New York City bus ride down historic 5th Avenue or simply take the NYC subway to other wonderful neighborhoods.
